Geographic Information Systems

Overview

Geographic Information Systems is a blend of digital mapping and database management that enables users to view much of local government's information by way of a map. Approximately 80% of local government information contains geographic components such as address or legal descriptions of property that are best viewed with a map.

MAGIC

Muscatine County citizens now have access to property information and maps online. This service is provided free-of-charge by the Muscatine Area Geographic Information Consortium (MAGIC) in partnership with Schneider Corporation's "Beacon" Web hosting service.

MAGIC is a partnership between the City of Muscatine, Muscatine County, and Muscatine Power and Water. Affiliate members include the Cities of Wilton and West Liberty.

Formed in 1999, the Consortium has provided a means by which these local government entities share costs and pool resources to construct a modern, countywide Geographic Information System, or GIS.
