Truancy Program

The Muscatine County Attorney’s Office partners with our local school districts to ensure every child is given the opportunity to receive the education he or she deserves. Parents with a child enrolled in public school are directly responsible for that child’s attendance. A child’s excessive unexcused absences may lead to a criminal truancy charge being filed against the parent at the school’s request. It is extremely important for parents to maintain communication and cooperation with the school first and foremost in order to avoid unnecessary consequences. If you receive a letter from our office please first contact your child’s school prior to contacting our office.
