General Assistance Guidelines

General assistance is available through the Community Services Department to individuals and families who are experiencing financial hardship or are in need, when they are unable to meet basic needs through their own resources, family support, or other public or private assistance, in accordance with the policies outlined in Iowa Code 252.1. Applications are open to all; eligibility is limited to residents of Muscatine County who meet eligibility criteria. As part of eligibility, applicants must have an ongoing source of income that can reasonably support continued sustainability.

The following services may be available through Muscatine County; availability is based on income guidelines, residency requirements, and available funding:

• General Assistance
• Cremation Assistance
• Food Voucher
• Personal Hygiene Voucher
• Rent Assistance
• Shelter Rent is available for individuals experiencing homelessness who are staying at MCSA, in accordance with the county plan
• Utilities Voucher
• Other as available
