The Civil Division is responsible for serving various legal notices, including:

- Committal Documents
- Court Orders
- Sheriff's Sales on foreclosed properties

The Civil Division also takes Applications for permits to carry and Permits to acquire handguns.
Effective July 1, 2017, fees will increase pursuant to 331.655(1) Senate File 501.
Iowa Sex Offender Registry
As of 2013, the Civil Division has been assisting with the registration of sex offenders.
The Iowa Sex Offender Registry became law on July 1, 1995, and is found in Chapter 692A of the Code of Iowa.
